  Baptize 'em young, keep 'em outta Sports - My notes from the last assembly

  i had heard of accounts of young baptisms, but i figured it was the exception rather than the rule.

  now i wonder, after viewing the models of youth paraded at the last assembly.

  i took note of the ages and age of baptism of the five young men (no girls this time) who were interviewed as models of jw youth at this last week's assembly.

  JGNAT, to answer your question they relieve their agression at the pick up games and acted like complete assholes for the most part. I remember playing pick up games, whatever, football, basketball, etc. and the brothers just acting like idiots with the way they played trying to show their manliness as they had no other place to strut their stuff. I played organized sports and I was like, ugh, asshole, we aren't allowed to headslap when we wear helmets, or chop block, or clip etc.

  Or for some of the lower life forms they took it out by pounding on their wife and kids, if not physically, mentally and emotionally. Sports are catharitic, they allow us (especially men) dispose of our natural aggression in a controlled environment and learn some lessons about winning, losing and sportsmanship.

  i finally figured out why i'm so socially retarded...it just hit me.. here i was sitting and wondering why i have such a hard time meeting new people, making friends, thinking of relevent things to say, and so on.

  it really is painful and scary for me.

  i was told who i could talk to, who i couldn't talk to, what i could say, what i couldn't say.

  Merry, Merry, you are certainly not contrary. I think you have a wonderful sense of humor and personality. You do just fine here on the board, don't be too tough on yourself. I understand it can be different in person, maybe just imagine when that happens that you are here on the board and just let it flow.

  That being said I certainly thing being a Dub could screw you up socially. I think as far as stuff going on socially it varied greatly, I knew of congregations like what Jez was describing that did all sorts of social things while others were one step away from an Amish like atomosphere. The hall I grew up in was totally dead socially, while one that my cousins went to was like what Jez was describing and seemed like another world to me.

  Counselling for depression......

  sorry, i don't want this to sound like a "woe is me" thread, but i just wanted to know of any positive or negative experiences with counselling....i've been offered it before but have put it off, and off (and off).

  today i have a doctor's appointment and am going to request it......but i'm a little wary of the thought.

  Counseling can be everything from wonderful to life saving depending on your situation. The most important thing with counseling is finding the right practitioner, one that you can work with and doesn not have their own agenda. Ask around, shop around to find the right one.
